As a general rule, if you know the size of hook, then match your thread to it,
or if you know which thread you are going to you, then match the hook to it.
Many threads suggested in the vintage crochet patterns are no longer available,
however, it is possible to substitute any vintage thread with a modern one.
The finer the thread, the higher its number, for example,
if tatting thread is called for, then a reasonable substitute would be
