Taking Care

Of Your Heirlooms

Any piece of hand made crochet, linen or lace
deserves the highest quality of care.
LAUNDRY
Wash and rinse gently
do not wring out
place gently between layers of a clean white towel
roll up gently and leave for a while until the towel has absorbed most of the moisture
cover a flat surface with a clean dry white cotton cloth
gently arrange the shape of the crochet
use steel pins to pin shape to board
place pins at an angle to secure the crochet
pay attention to picots, open and pineach one
allow to dry (protect fron sunlight)

STORAGE
do not fold at anytime as this will damage the fibres
avoid excessive handling
keep out of sunlight

to wrap or store use acid free tissue paper.
(do not use unbuffered acid free tissue paper for silk or wool)
do not fold
if size is an issue, such as a tablecloth, it can be carefully rolled around a 'tube' made from tissue paper, or placed over a coat hanger,well padded with tissue, and can then be covered with a bag made of pure cotton and hung in a closet

Lavender is a good moth-repellent and adds a delightful fragrance to add to any heirloom stash!
